The Best Gas Suppliers In NSW
You might be considering turning on the heat or heating the air conditioner to give you a little more warmth as the cold days start approaching. But with the colder weather comes, gas prices rise due to increased usage of heaters and hot water to keep you warm. This is also a good time to check your current provider. Here at Plumber Epping, we take away the hassle of doing research as we list down the best gas suppliers in NSW.
Gas price regulation changes
2017 saw a significant change in gas price regulations. We mean that they were completely removed. This revoking brought with it some positives as well as some negatives. There were more gas suppliers on market, but this made it more difficult to choose! However, there is a possibility of a decrease in gas prices due to industry pressure. We have listed a few NSW gas suppliers for you to compare gas retailers.
Gas suppliers NSW
Around 10 gas suppliers are located in NSW. Many of these gas suppliers offer both power and services to many households. AGL, Energy Australia and Origin are the ‘big three’, but alternatives like Red Energy are becoming more common in the gas market. But how good… are they really?
Origin Energy
Origin Energy, one of the three major energy companies, is an integrated company that provides a wide range of options to suit different situations. You can choose from variable-rate plans or a fixed cost deal. This is based on how much gas you used in the past 12 months. It will calculate your monthly bill and then you’ll be charged a fixed monthly amount. This amount is determined every 12 months. They offer discounts on payments, and they have an easy process for signing up. However, they don’t provide a lot of value for money. Their online tools and advice options are very poor.
AGL
AGL, another big three, is well-known for their various electricity deals. However, they only have 2 gas deals available in NSW. The one that offers a discount if you pay in time is better than the other. However, the non-discounted option still has very competitive rates of usage and supply. It may seem strange, but the no-discount options are often cheaper than the other. AGL also offers a double-discount scenario for customers who have both electricity and gas accounts. AGL is very clear about billing but they don’t offer the best customer service, environmental sustainability or value for money. They don’t have great online options.
Energy Australia
Energy Australia is the last of the three majors and offers a wide range of gas supply deals. This includes a fixed rate 2 year plan that provides great pay-on-time discounts, lower rates if gas prices drop, and no exit fees. Energy Australia also offers variable gas plans with great on-time payments discounts. However, one option only offers lower rates and no discounts. Although they are known for their environmental sustainability, Energy Australia is not well-known. Their customer service and sign up process leaves much to be desired. However, they are a great value for the money.
Red Energy
Red Energy, which is owned by Snowy Hydro, is a bit of an outsider in NSW’s gas market. Their focus is on environmental sustainability which is a plus for many people. They also keep it simple when it comes down to gas plans (basically, whether you are a Qantas Frequent flyer member or not). They offer a variety of plans, with no exit fees or contracts, as well as a good rewards program that includes money off movie tickets and cash back. Red Energy plans offer excellent value and great billing and costing transparency, along with outstanding customer service. Although their sign-up process isn’t ideal, it’s still a good one. They are an excellent choice for solid gas suppliers.
Other options
Other suppliers include Alinta Energy and Amaysim as well as Click and CovaU. Dodo Power & Gas are also available. Each retailer offers a variety of options to meet different needs. These other options may be worth considering for the medium and short-term as the NSW gas market becomes more competitive every year. While they may not be the best option at this time, they will become more prominent over the years.
Verdict
Red Energy, a less well-known provider in NSW, appears to be the best. Its focus on sustainability is a major plus for many customers. Red Energy is the preferred choice for many customers, but this is not to suggest that they aren’t worth looking at. You should remember that not all providers are right for your household. Each household is unique. So do your research to find the best option for you.
